1. Purpose
This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) sets out the rules for using the budgii app, website, and related services. It is incorporated by reference into the Terms of Service. Use of budgii means agreement with this AUP.
2. Who this applies to
This AUP applies to every person who accesses or uses budgii, including adult account holders, Children using a Child profile, visitors to the website, and anyone interacting with budgii infrastructure (for example, through the public website or API).
3. What budgii is for
budgii is a family management app. It is intended to be used to coordinate a household: to track chores, homework, meal planning, shopping, the family calendar, and to support Children aged approximately 5 to 17 in earning rewards for their contribution to the home through the Coin and Chain systems.
Any other use is outside the intended purpose of the product.
4. Prohibited uses
You must not use budgii in any of the following ways:
4.1 Unlawful or harmful uses
- In any way that violates applicable local, state, national, or international law.
- To harass, abuse, bully, stalk, intimidate, or discriminate against any person.
- To threaten, harm, or attempt to harm any person, including any Child.
- To infringe the intellectual property, privacy, or other rights of any person.
- To commit fraud, identify theft, or other deceptive conduct.
4.2 Harmful content
- Uploading, entering, or transmitting content that is violent, sexually explicit, defamatory, or otherwise unlawful.
- Uploading, entering, or transmitting any content involving sexualised or exploitative material concerning a Child. All such content will be reported to the relevant authorities.
- Using budgii to store or share material you are not legally entitled to possess or distribute.
4.3 System misuse
- Attempting to gain unauthorised access to any part of budgii, its servers, other user accounts, or connected systems.
- Probing, scanning, or testing the vulnerability of budgii infrastructure except under the terms set out in Section 7.
- Circumventing or attempting to circumvent any access control, rate limit, or security measure.
- Introducing viruses, worms, trojan horses, malware, or other harmful code into budgii.
- Conducting any denial-of-service or similar disruptive attack against budgii.
4.4 Reverse engineering and competitive use
- Reverse engineering, decompiling, or disassembling any part of the budgii app or services, except to the extent expressly permitted by law (for example, for interoperability under section 47D of the Australian Copyright Act 1968).
- Using budgii to develop or train a competing product or service.
- Scraping, copying, or extracting substantial parts of the budgii website or app without written permission.
4.5 Account misuse
- Creating an account under false pretences or impersonating another person.
- Sharing an adult account login with anyone who is not an adult leader of the same household, or with any Child.
- Reselling, sublicensing, or redistributing access to budgii.
5. Child safety
budgii takes Child safety as a first-order concern. Adult account holders must:
- Act at all times in the best interests of any Child on the account.
- Not use budgii to humiliate, shame, or coerce a Child.
- Not use the Coin, reward, or streak systems to withhold essential needs such as food, shelter, hygiene, or medical care.
- Not record or share any content that could place a Child at risk.
- Supervise the Child's use of the app in a manner appropriate to the Child's age and maturity.
6. User-provided content
You retain all rights in the content you input into budgii (including task descriptions, rewards, goals, and any text you write). By using budgii, you grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display, and process that content solely as necessary to provide the Services to you and your household.
You are responsible for the content you input. Do not input content you do not have the right to use, content containing Personal Data of people outside your household, or content that violates this AUP.
7. Security research and vulnerability reporting
We welcome good-faith security research and encourage the responsible disclosure of vulnerabilities. If you believe you have discovered a vulnerability:
- Email security@budgii.io with the details.
- Give us a reasonable window (not less than 30 days) to investigate and remediate before any public disclosure.
- Do not access, modify, or exfiltrate any data that is not your own.
- Do not conduct tests that could degrade the Service for other users (for example, denial-of-service attacks or volumetric scanning).
Research conducted in good faith in accordance with the above will not result in legal action or account suspension, and will be acknowledged publicly if the researcher consents.
8. Automated access
Automated access to budgii services (including web scraping, bots, crawlers, and programmatic API access outside any officially published API) is prohibited without prior written permission, except for standard search engine crawlers accessing the public website in accordance with the site’s robots.txt.
9. Enforcement
If we reasonably believe that a user has breached this AUP, we may take any of the following actions, proportionate to the nature and seriousness of the breach:
- Contact the user to seek clarification or explanation.
- Require the user to remove or modify specific content.
- Temporarily suspend the user's access to all or part of the Services.
- Terminate the user's account, with or without refund depending on the circumstances and applicable consumer law.
- Report the matter to law enforcement, child welfare authorities, or other competent authorities, where we believe there is risk of harm.
- Preserve evidence for the purpose of any investigation or legal action.
Nothing in this section limits any other remedy available to budgii at law or under the Terms of Service, including the right to recover losses caused by a breach of this AUP.
10. Reporting abuse
If you observe a breach of this AUP or are concerned about the safety of any Child using budgii, please report it to us at:
Reports are reviewed by a human. We respond as quickly as we reasonably can, and always within five business days unless the matter is urgent, in which case we act sooner.
If a Child is in immediate danger, please contact your local emergency services first. Reporting to budgii is not a substitute for emergency intervention.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this AUP from time to time, for example to respond to new types of misuse or changes in applicable law. Material changes are notified to account holders by email and by updating the effective date at the top of this page.
